WEEKLY WRAP: ANZ's new general manager of advice

ANZ announced changes to its Global Wealth Leadership Team.

Alexis George has been appointed managing director of Insurance, effective December 2, 2013, and Neil Younger has been appointed general manager Advice and Open Market Channels, effective immediately. Younger joined ANZ in December 2011 as ANZ Head of Practice Based Financial Planning. He has held senior executive roles in wealth management at both CBA and BT Financial.

ANZ also announced the appointment of Kerri Thompson as managing director Bancassurance and Customer Experience, ANZ Wealth, reporting to ANZ Global Wealth CEO Joyce Phillips.

Brett Jollie, managing director of Aberdeen Asset Management Australia Limited, has been appointed to the board of the Financial Services Council.

David Plant has been appointed as Asteron Life’s executive manager of Operations and Strategy, reporting to Asteron Life’s executive general manager for Adviser Distribution Jordan Hawke.

Australian Unity Investments (AUI) has strengthened its legal, compliance and governance capabilities with two senior appointments. Liesl Petterd has joined AUI in the newly-created role of senior governance manager and Ronnie Lipp has been appointed senior legal counsel.

AMP Financial Services (AFS) has made a number of senior appointments to help drive AMP’s corporate super strategy.  AMP director Corporate Super, Libby Roy has appointed the following people to her leadership team.

Boutique global credit investment manager Bentham Asset Management appointed Kate Harris to the newly created role of client portfolio manager.

Perpetual Investments has promoted internal talent in a reorganisation of its senior equities investment team. Long-term Perpetual team member Paul Skamvougeras was appointed deputy head of Equities. Charlie Lanchester, current deputy head of Equities, has decided to leave Perpetual and the institutional funds management industry.

Nathan Parkin, also a long-term member of Perpetual’s team, has been appointed joint portfolio manager of the Industrial Share Fund with Vince Pezzullo.

Mark Burgess has resigned from his position as managing director and president of the $89 billion Future Fund after a little more than two years with the organisation, as he intends to move to the private sector.

APRA has approved NAB’s MySuper offers, MLC MySuper and Plum MySuper. The offers will be available towards the end of the year.

Colonial First State has added Tyndall AM’s Tyndall Australian Share Concentrated Fund to its FirstWrap platform, demonstrating the strong ongoing adviser and investor demand for high quality, total return equities strategies.

International leaders will address attendees at the FPA’s inaugural Professionals Congress (17-18 October) this year. 

Mark Rantall, CEO of the FPA, will be joined by international and local financial planning professionals in a Leadership Panel at the FPA event. Panellists include ASIC deputy chair Peter Kell, FPSB chair Steve Helmich, FPSB USA CEO Noel Maye and FPSB UK director Barry Horner.

The Commonwealth Bank has entered the ASX Warrants market starting with the issue of Instalment Warrants. The first issue is particularly aimed at SMSFs looking to implement a gearing strategy over some of Australia’s leading shares over the medium to longer term.

The Instalments Warrants are available over 28 leading companies listed on the ASX and an Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) with investors having a choice of gearing levels between 50 and 70 per cent.
