Graeme Colley of SPAA has dubbed 2014 “The Year of the Enquiry” in a discussion with Wealth Professional about the organisation’s upcoming national conference.
Colley, the director of technical and professional standards, says the government’s interest in superannuation and in the financial services area is important this year, as well as a rise in professional standards and an increase in the knowledge base of financial and SMSF
The conference will have an emphasis on technology to highlight the substantial changes required for SMSF over the next two years he says, which will include employer contributions and Super Stream.
There will be a range of speakers that will cover all aspects of superannuation, from government representatives, to regulators and international speakers.
Colley says it is particularly exciting to host Rob Heffernan, an executive director of Treasury, because it is rare to have people of his calibre at such conferences.
Speakers will discuss a variety of topics including insurance and superannuation, blended families, and Limited Recourse Borrowing Arrangements.
Patron Sir Anthony Mason will speak about the way in which he sees professionalism moving forward, which SPAA see as a vital part of superannuation.
