CommInsure’s Linda Winterbottom has been awarded this year’s prestigious ALUCA TurksLegal Scholarship for her essay on The National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The paper was described as a highly informative and original piece of writing, which examined the scheme from a unique perspective. It looked critically at the ways the scheme may challenge the industry but emphasised the many opportunities it will also create.
“Linda is to be commended for providing everyone with such an insightful analysis of this major change in the disability landscape and making many useful and practical suggestions about how the industry can work with it,” said John Myatt, TurkLegal’s Insurance and Financial Services Practice group leader and member of the judging panel.
“In addition to her insightful writing on the topic, Linda’s paper showcases some of her own research, which made it truly outstanding,” said Myatt.
Linda’s win will be rewarded with an overseas conference package valued at $8,000 including return travel, accommodation, $1,000 cash and conference registration.
This year’s scholarship was well supported by the industry with twenty three papers, among the highest number of entries received in its seven year history.
There was a wider than usual variety of topics offered this year and the judging panel was impressed with the high quality and commercial acumen of the leading papers submitted.
This year’s runners up were RGA’s Michael Richardson and OnePath’s Amity McCarthy who will respectively receive a $1,000 VISA pre-paid gift card and $250 restaurant voucher.
“ALUCA are delighted to support the ALUCA TurksLegal Scholarship because it promotes excellence on so many levels – from the sharing of best practices and great ideas across the life insurance industry, to encouraging high achievers to broaden their professional horizons,” said Brian Sussman, Chair, Australasian Life Underwriting and Claims Association (ALUCA).
