On the back of the launch of Affinia Financial Advisers’ thought leadership campaign, general manager Craig Parker spends five with Wealth Professional.
Why financial advice?
We work in an amazing industry. One that supplies dignity and choice at the time of real need. That’s why I have so much passion for insurance and the impact we have on Australians.
How would you sum up advisers in three words?
Needed, professional, under-used.
How would you change the industry?
Educate about the importance of professional advice at an earlier age. Not SELLING, not PRODUCT flogging but explaining and demonstrating the benefits of Advice.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Life is too short, so have fun and have passion for what you do.
What’s the most important thing an adviser can do to develop their business?
Understand their true value, understand the purpose of advice and be very clear on how this is articulated.
If you were Prime Minister for one day, what would you do?
Go on a holiday, then build into the school curriculum a financial literacy module that acknowledges the importance and role of advice in personal finance and protection.
What’s the biggest challenge facing the industry today?
As an industry we don’t self-regulate enough and need to ensure everyone operates at a higher standard than is required. We need to become more customer focussed in our business models and seek higher professionalism in everything we do.
NRL, AFL, soccer or other?
Go the Hawks (AFL).
What’s your favourite drink?
If you could invite three people to dinner, dead or alive, and excluding family and friends, who would they be and why?
Mick Jaggar for the music, Ricky Gervais for the comedy and Demi Moore as my wife couldn’t be invited.
