FRIDAY FUN: Are you inadvertently advertising Viagra?

by |

It may be a world away from financial planning, but one marketing expert has claimed that a surprising number of financial advisers are inadvertently promoting that little blue pill.

It all comes down to the way that financial planners are promoting their services online, said president and founder of investment and financial services PR consultancy i-Impact Group Claudio Panunzio – namely the choice of images that they choose to place on their websites.

“If you are a financial adviser who specialises in college plans or you specialise in concentrated stock options for your clients, don’t do what many advisers do,” he said.

“They pick these beautiful pictures of senior citizens who are riding the infamous Italian scooter – the Vespa – on a coastline, and they have their legs and arms up in the air,” added the Italian-born PR specialist.

“I say to them, ‘that’s a great commercial for Viagra – it’s not for you!’. So the choice of image is very important. It’s as important as words.”

So, next time you’re working on your practice's website design, take some time to think about whether your choice of images represents your target audience – or whether they’d more appropriate for advertising products aimed at taking on a somewhat harder task.
